This January transfer market is typically a period of intense rumour and possible major moves. Several notable footballers are being linked with moves away from their current clubs. We examine some of the major figures who could be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to reach the AFCON, this has kept the forward in contention, it appears an important transfer is close. The 25-year-old possesses a deal featuring a £65 million release clause active for a two-week period at the start of the month. Recent developments suggest Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other options, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The English defender has excel for Palace this season a previous transfer to Anfield collapsing. Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barça following the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a January departure looks increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The proven England centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of making the England World Cup. But, arranging a deal poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his reported enormous salary make any move difficult. H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named player of the tournament at the U21 Euros in the summer, the talented midfielder has struggled for minutes on loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to specific rules regarding playing for two clubs in a campaign, a return to Liverpool before next summer seems to be the only available solution.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing contract running down, many English sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are eager to secure the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
